...big news...

This might be strange.

Some of you know that I've been trying to decide if I should serve an 18-month mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

(Now here's the strange bit...)

Somehow I found myself watching videos on YouTube of future missionaries opening their calls. Before this massive distraction to my Anthropology paper, I had been struggling with the same doubts.....delay graduation 1 1/2 years?
Grad school? Family? Friends? My whole life behind? Whoa. Lots of big questions.

But as I watched these other sisters, more or less the same age as I, it just kind of hit me. I just knew.

I WANT TO SERVE A MISSION.

Oh my goodness, hip hip hooray!!

So there's my big news.

Ling 450

My professor sometimes says ridiculous things. Today:

"Sometimes linguistics is one of those non-sciences...sometimes it's a religion."

One of my favorite things

Now that it's finally autumn (hooray!!), I can actually drink my tea hot! In the summer it's just too much warmth and I have to let it cool considerably before it's even enjoyable. But in the last couple of weeks with the light rain and cool evenings, I've brought my absolutely darling little tea cup and saucer out from hibernation! Believe it or not, I found this gem for $10 at DI. And I love it so.

To go with my hot cup of tea (peppermint today), here is a lovely poem by Christopher Marlowe: The Passionate Shepherd to his Love.

Come live with me and be my love,

And we will all the pleasures prove

That valleys, groves, hills, and fields,

Woods, or steepy mountain yields.

And we will sit upon rocks,

Seeing the shepherds feed their flocks,

By shallow rivers to whose falls

Melodious birds sing madrigals.

And I will make thee beds of roses

And a thousand fragrant poises,

A cap of flowers, and a kirtle

Embroidered all with leaves of myrtle;

A gown made of the finest wool

Which from our pretty lambs we pull;

Fair lined slippers for the cold,

With buckles of the purest gold;

A belt of straw and ivy buds,

With coral clasps and amber studs;

And if these pleasures may thee move,

Come live with me, and be my love.

The shepherds's swains shall dance and sing

For thy delight each May morning:

If these delights thy mind may move,

Then live with me and be my love.

Simply beautiful!

Garance Doré's best video ever. Here it is, Chanel. Though I suppose most things Chanel are the best ever. After the grace here, I have a hard time seeing the appeal of Prada's brightness or Roberto Cavalli's edginess or really anything else. Ah! J'adore.

Grenadine

YES I did find grenadine! It's such good news. Every time I take a sip, suddenly I feel like I'm back at 2 Rue Bellanger, sitting on those ikea bar stools that look like squished chess pawns, feeling a kitten weave between my ankles and try to jump on my lap. Now, when I'm wearing Chanel N˚5, the sudden wave of nostalgia and familiarity knocks me back. No, really. I have to sit down so I don't fall over.

Rose's Grenadine at Macey's--that terrible, dark, crowded and unorganized grocery store. Who would ever have thought?

My book envy is officially ignited.

This is one of the neatest posts by the Selby of all time--Jeanne Lanvin's private library! And since Lanvin is one of my absolute favorite designers, this peek into history is just wonderful! Someday I hope my library is just as perfect--right now this is Blair's travelling collection:

(sorry for the poor quality cell phone photos! My camera is out of battery!)

Anyway. Someday I'll have a fantastic--I mean, even more fantastic than it is currently--collection of books, libros, livres, libri. Love, love, love.

Have a happiest of days, mes moutons!

It's been fun

Mmm fashion week. Inspiring. Here is one of my favorite show videos from Garance Doré, the Jil Sander show--the gentle, long, brightly colored skirts are just lovely!! And we all know how I feel about super feminine skirts :) Isn't it fun to see Franca Sozzani and Anna Wintour and all the other stars? I always wonder at Franca's hair...how does it get curled enough that it's neat, carefree, cool, but not frizzy or unkempt? I may never know. (Speaking of crazy fashion hair....Grace Coddington.....with Willy Wonka Anna in the background, no less)

Now I just need to find a bigger closet :)

37%, not bad.

Very very interesting!

I'm glad Denver ranks high, that's nice.

September Issue

So I know I'm a bit late on this.....but I just got out my September Issue of Vogue (not for the first time, I promise), and I just love the Céline leopard bag that's featured in the Nordstrom ad....of course it is far out of reach of the uni student budget, but it's inspired me to be more open to leopard print, where I'm normally very very conservative. To the point of hardly ever wearing it. Anyway. Part of it (and a big part of it) is that this model has the most beautiful look ever! I think maybe I can imitate it....green eyes, dark hair, red lips.....got it. Now I just have to perfect my bone structure, hmm.

Of course the PhotoBooth image of the page (han
ging on my wall, where else) does no justice to the original photograph, but it's a hint :)

So there it is. That's what's keeping me up on a Saturday night (date? Who wants a date?), but now it's definitely time for bed. CONFERENCE in the morning, hooray! Come listen to a Prophet's voice! Wonderful.

Bonne nuit, mes lapins
